ASTM美(měi)國材料實驗協會(huì)(American Society of Testing Materials )前身是國際材料試驗協會(huì)(International Association for Testing Materials, IATM)。

19世紀80年代,爲解決采購(gòu)商與供貨商在購(gòu)銷工(gōng)業(yè)材料過程中産生的(de)意見和(hé)分(fēn)歧,有(yǒu)人(rén)提出建立技術(shù)委員會(huì)制(zhì)度,由技術(shù)委員會(huì)組織各方面的(de)代表參加技術(shù)座談會(huì),討(tǎo)論解決有(yǒu)關材料規範、試驗程序等方面的(de)争議問題。

ASTM是美(měi)國最老、最大(dà)的(de)非盈利性的(de)标準學術(shù)團體之一。經過一個(gè)世紀的(de)發展,ASTM現有(yǒu)33669個(gè)(個(gè)人(rén)和(hé)團體)會(huì)員,其中有(yǒu)22396個(gè)主要委員會(huì)會(huì)員在其各個(gè)委員會(huì)中擔任技術(shù)專家工(gōng)作。ASTM的(de)技術(shù)委員會(huì)下共設有(yǒu)2004個(gè)技術(shù)分(fēn)委員會(huì)。有(yǒu)105817個(gè)單位參加了ASTM标準的(de)制(zhì)定工(gōng)作,主要任務是制(zhì)定材料、産品、系統、和(hé)服務等領域的(de)特性和(hé)性能(néng)标準,試驗方法和(hé)程序标準,促進有(yǒu)關知識的(de)發展和(hé)推廣。
